Cunningham's Den

My dear friend wants to update her den. I am suggesting: Paint a Tuscan-inspired color on the walls: don't wimp out with pastels!Keep existing furniture and placement. Paint mantel on fireplace an aged ivory finish, or restain it in a rustic pine. Replace curtains with a fun, light print. Get pillows in different textures and colors/prints. Create a relaxed atmosphere that showcases the homeowner's personality: relaxed, equestrian-tuscan -california chic!

Some inspiration rooms......

1. Thanks to Elements of Style for posting this great inspiration photo- source I believe is Pottery Barn. Love the trunk as coffee table/end table in this room!

2. This is lovely as well- so airy and keeps the natural wood tones. I love the shade on the sofa too. Adds some punch... Look at the nice built-in bookshelves, something similar can be created for the rather large existing fireplace mantel.................

Use existing furniture for now.
Add pillows and throws.
paint woodwork.
paint color on walls
replace curtains...

3. The kitchen also needs some updates. It is adjacent to the den...so I am proposing:

Paint the cabinets ivory with a brown glaze to antique them somewhat...

Paint walls perhaps a shade deeper or lighter than the den, but still darker than the cabinets for some needed contrast.

Replace the window coverings with a valance in an equestrian toile---

I think the floors are terra-cotta--have them power-cleaned and reglazed for a renewed and clean look---

This is also beautiful, painted cabinets lighten and brighten!

She loves equestrian AND toile, so I am suggestiong THIS pillow from Perch, New Orleans

  1. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm glad you liked the table I redid. I had 2, and my plan was to refinish one, and paint the other. The one that I was going to paint is in really rough condition, thinking I may have to "part it out".
I know nothing about decorating. I've never really decorated my house. I'm in the middle of a living room makeover, even when I'm done, I probably won't "decorate" it. :)

Thanks for stopping by!! I love your comments!
