Before and After: ReUpholstered Slipper Chair

I just made my own drop cloth slipcover here. But sometimes, its worth it to save up & hire a professional. This chair has been in our family since my grandmother was a newlywed. I have lugged it to numerous apartments and 3 houses the past 20-something years. It was in pretty sad shape. Most recently I had stapled fabric on it and it sported a ripped and torn underside, as well as messed-up springs. It was not comfortable. I contemplated making a slipcover for it, but I realized the inner springs and foam would have to be replaced to make it functional. Knowing this was well beyond my skill, I sought out a local upholsterer.

It was not cheap ($350.00--ouch!) but worth it, and not too bad considering most of my furniture was free from family, or really old stuff I had that I redid myself.

I chose a beautiful woven fabric that reads like linen. It has a bit of shimmer...which I need because this room can be dark. It also had antique brass nailheads at the bottom. Check it out:
