Tomato Hornworms

Thse guys find your plant no matter what! They are HUGE and eat the stems and the leaves and the fruit! UGH!

The guy at top (who was later eliminated by my boy) was found when I noticed holy leaves, little black poopies on the leaves, and tiny translucent eggs left on the leaves. They are hard to find, you really have to look closely.

Here's a great link that tells you more: Yardener Info on Horworms.

I am off to Home Depot to buy some BT (Bacillus thuringiensis), the only organic product I have found that is eefective in controlling these beasts. Oh, other than this guy:

  1. Oh man- I had a tomato hornworm problem too. I squished probably 15-20 in a week. FINALLY found one that had parasitic wasp eggs on it and left that one alone- they hatched and my hornworm problem disappeared!! Next year I'm definitely trying the BT method. Hope it helped you!!
