Guest Post: Smoky Shades in the Master Bedroom

Thank you to Joanna from Arcadian Lighting, for today's guest blog post! Enjoy!
Hi there! I’m Joanna, a writer for Arcadian Lighting, the go-to source on the web for all styles of wonderful chandeliers, wall sconces, and lighting fixtures. I’m so excited to be guest posting on House Finally today. I love all things design and spend much of my time searching the internet for lovely decorating ideas and images to share with blog readers like you. My own style is very eclectic as I have a hard time committing to just one look. I hope you enjoy this post on smoky shades in the bedroom!
Smoky Shades
A natured-themed room in shades of grey looks like a soothing place to unwind and relax after a long day. The bedding is so luxurious with its ruched coverlet.
Smoky Shades
Whispery shades of gray and white give this bedroom an ethereal feel. The tufted headboard is always a favorite of mine.
Smoky Shades
This contemporary space boasts several shades of grey which all fit nicely together. The pin-tucked duvet is lovely. Tall slender lamps add a sense of fun to the design.
Smoky Shades
Smoky hues of grey and purple set the mood in this dramatic bedroom. The architectural lines of the windows are so interesting.
Smoky Shades
The softest grey covers this elegant bedroom in every element from the well-appointed bed to the faintest patterned wallpaper. This space reminds me of a French apartment.
Smoky Shades
Mauve, lavender and grey look lovely together in this pretty bedroom. The light streaming in the windows would be nice to wake up to.
Smoky Shades
I adore this unusual tufted headboard. I can just imagine curling up in the bed with a good book and a cup of tea.
Smoky Shades
The dramatic light fixture above this bed is stunning. The wall treatment is a muted grey that mimics concrete but still has a softness to it. Inspire to Design

Here are some other spaces in my house I would love to remake, and their inspirations follow.

current Master Bedroom

I like both of these, maybe a combo of them?

Now unto the bathroom--
current Master Bath

Inspiration Photo:
must frame mirror--or get new one!

Like the half wall...but in white subway tiles
I like the simplicity here of the niche and the plain band of tiles

NIce with the slightly darker gray grout, and just the back of the niche in the mosaic

This is one of the color choices I liked for the mosaic

Den Transformation

It started like this when we first moved in

I mean, can it be any more boring? Good points: its a big, neutral space, and the kitchen is adjacent as one great open space.

We needed a sofa desperately, and found this one.

In choosing this sectional, I thought I was solving two major problems: need for seating, and filling up the space. I realized after it was there a few months that I should have ordered the reverse...so that the chaise was on the other side to bridge between the kitchen space and the den.... Oh well, I was going to HAVE to make it work!

This is the other side of the room...so heavy with furniture while the other side is so empty

I posted about my color dilemma--those white walls were just too boring!
So a few months, painting and furniture rearranging later...
ta da!

BREAKING UP THOSE 2 HUGE BOOKCASES MADE THE ROOM MORE BALANCED

Getting the furniture away from the walls also made the room feel less long and narrow.
A reading nook emerged

Plenty of room to stretch out. And cozier to boot. Now everyone can see the TV.
The color is Ben Moore Pale Smoke, cut by half with white

I think we're on to something here. I still have to put  up the curtains...they are so pretty I can't wait.  The kitchen was painted the same color. I love it with my espresso cabinets. ( I will post on that another day--today my kitchen is sorta messy!)
Again, Before:
AFTER:

The best part? It cost me just the gallon of paint. Yes, it's a large space but more than half of it is windows, so a gallon did it all. Accessories were stolen from other rooms.

Let me know what you think!
Thank you Chic on a Shoestring for featuring me!

The Kids Rooms

Now I have halfway finished daughter #2 bedroom, and daughter # 1 reminded me I never finished hers--started months ago! I think I have decorator's ADD... I really need to learn to finish something before I start on another....

Here's #1 daughter's room progress so far:
Here's the Before-right after we moved in--the room's tiny so its almost impossible to get a wide shot

I gathered these items for inspiration--posted about here

Made this and Love it

Here was the After-so far- with her new bedding and redone nightstands--posted about the remake of these CL finds here

another shot--cute bedding--

We have since added some more B&W accents...curtains and another bedspread--but you see, the walls are sooo bare!
So, we are thinking Purple-- a nice, deep purple--maybe just one wall? or a chair rail and deep purple beneath a lavendar above? hmmmm

Now lets move on to daughter #2. She loved orange... this is her rooms progress...
These shots are from are old house--so you can see the colors we had!

Here we are in our current house--reusing the same bedding, but the walls are sooo stark white.

Again, color story features orange prominently

Here's the bedding we had chosen....

The thing is, we recently upgraded to a full-size bed. So that bedding will be replaced. We also painted one wall this gorgeous brown, and added curtains... and she will keep her redone dresser, posted about here...

Stay tuned for the updated pics!

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas

I just couldn't wait one stinkin' second longer-- my WHITE Christmas tree, scored at Kohl's 80% off sale last year, was waiting all this time to be freed.

My idea was at first White with Blue...but that was before we bought a GREEN sofa--so I think we'll just stay white, silver, and a touch of black accents...."

"I keep trying to go Blue--but Green keeps pullin' me back IN"

I used my old fabric valances as a tree skirt.

This one, by Kasey,  is my Inspiration, I posted about white trees here.

p.s. Here's an update-- I added GREEN ornaments (just a few in a spring green) and this T-Riffic bow I made using Judy's Tutorial from DIY by Design . Check it out!
